Zin sulfide can be described as an organic compound with a chemical composition of ZnS. This is a white, slightly yellow powder which becomes darker when exposed sunlight. It is stable when dry, but will slowly oxidize to zinc sulfate in humid conditions.
Zinc Sulfide: The key features
1. Physical Properties
Powder that is white to slightly yellow. When heated with H2S gas, it turns into crystals. The a variant, a colorless hexagonal crystal, has a density of 3.98g/cm3 with a melting point at 1700degC. It can also exist in sphalerite. Insoluble in water; soluble in acids. You can see the sun’s color darken.
2. Chemical Properties
If it is left in humid air for too long, it will convert to zinc sulfate. It is generally formed from the interaction of hydrogen sulfide with zinc salt solution.
